I lived for a short time in this small fishing village in the British West Indies, but I was too shy then to present the intrusiveness of a camera. That was until the bare footed girl in the fourth photograph asked me, totally out of the blue, to take her picture. This was the imprimatur I needed. I went to get my camera while she went to get her hat, and we made the portrait you see here. That overcame my shyness, and I suddenly had many willing subjects who did not see my camera as intrusive at all.
